Dr. Masouras also worked late to fit me into her full surgery schedule. As a result I was able to have my port surgically implanted immediately which enabled quick initiation of my cancer treatment. "I have been a patient of Dr. Masouras for several years. Having had fibrocystic breast disease for 25 years and multiple biopsies, Dr. Masouras has had me on a very consistent care plan with additional imaging when required. In July, 2020, my films unfortunately came back with calcifications that required biopsy. We felt the results would be benign because the other 8 biopsies had been. Not so lucky this time, and when she called me with the results, she was so compassionate and caring and had already organized the next steps that made me feel secure. We met as a family to discuss treatment. Dr. Masouras performed a bilateral mastectomy on August 17, 2020. Reconstruction was started at the same time. The key point in doctor-patient relationships is to feel safe in asking the hard questions. In a follow-up appointment, I asked her if I made the right decision about mastectomy rather than lumpectomy and further treatment. She said, “Absolutely. Your case wasn’t a matter of ‘if’ it would come back; “it was a matter of when.” She said, “This is a win for our side.” I believe this too.
